Lose yourself in Petra

The rose red city, structures carved out beautifully from the rocks, watching lights & a musical night, posing with Bedouins or hitting a conversation with a local, to explore the city of Jordan, there are more than many ways.

Downtown, Amman

Before heading to Petra, we spent some time in Downtown Market, Amman which is famous for shopping. From spices and fruits to clothes and souvenirs, you can find it all in here.

With vehicles bustling on the road, it was fascinating to cross the wide roads in here.

What you can do?

In the wake of Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley’s new announcement that it may take 2-4 weeks for the situation to settle, let’s consider a month, people are already getting annoyed and panicky. Even media role have not been very encouraging. Everywhere you would listen either problems or criticism of government.

I agree that there are issues but we shall try and find some solutions to it. With almost a month at least for things to get right we need to understand that “change brings growth, change brings opportunity”. We should get less jumpy about the problem but jump towards the opportunity it brings along.

The problem and How to deal with them?

Diwali Postcards

I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Autumns and Autumns not only mean breeze, the colours when even leaves look like flower but also the season of festivals. Its Autumn when so many Hindu festivals are lined up which parade one after the other. First Navratri, followed by Dushera, Dhanteras and Diwali to name a few.

Diwali is the festival of lights which signifies, victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair.

I wait for this festival whole year because it means lights, colours and fragrance to me. We celebrate it with zeal and enthusiasm. I love lighting my house with Diyas, my sister fills in colours by making rangoli and we pray to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha by sprinkling on them kumkum, kheel-batashe and flowers. This can change the ambiance of any house. I am not very religious but spiritual in some ways and even though I am unconventional, I love to follow certain traditions like diwali celebration or doing hawan all 9 mornings during navratri because that makes me feel happy.

Two Days of Detox and Rejuvenate at NIMBA

Every human being is the author of his own health and disease. Its a great responsibility but not so difficult to treat your body as a temple.   ~ Buddha

Photography by Stuti Shrimali

In the daily hustle bustle called life we forget to take care of our body and its difficult, I agree but not impossible. Today's generation with increase in diseases and that too in a very young age, is now becoming more and more cautious about their health.

With caution comes options, like giving yourself some time on weekends or going for wellness and spiritual travel, eating healthy and not taking work home.

Photography by Stuti Shrimali

Recently, I visited NIMBA, Gujarat's largest healing village, a place for holistic body treatment. NIMBA is the Sanskrit word and comes from Nimbati Syasthyamdati which means "to give good health". So to experience something of that sort, to get a good break and rejuvenate; when I along with other 13 bloggers were invited by Ayurveda Sutra from different parts of the country, I couldn't say no.

My Holachef Experience

What's Holachef

Gen Y wants just about everything, good food but also they wanna be fit. Also no body has got much time to cook lunch in the morning to take along to work. The problem is solved by a Mumbai based online curated food delivery service, Holachef. It works with chefs for menu planning, food packing, storage, customer service, quality control, etc. Like many tiffin services we know, Holachef too delivers food to one's doorstep but there is a twist.

Being a foodie I can very well relate to what and why of Holachef. It’s dynamic, crowd managed menu comprises a range of cuisines from Mexican to Middle-Eastern and from Kashmiri to Chettinad. Chefs prepare dishes with fresh ingredients in state-of-the-art kitchens and the menu changes everyday. You can choose in advance and book your order and the time slot when you want it delivered. It's tasty and nutritious, just like home food. Plus, for vegetarians like me there are a lot of options which we usually don't get in restaurants these days which ain't pure veg.

Tenderly Promise Eau de Toilette: Review

Tenderly Promise Eau de Toilette by Oriflame

After using Paradise Deodorizing Body Spray by Oriflame for a long time I thought its time to try a Eau de Toilette. The time I set my eyes upon the Tenderly Promise Eau de Toilette, I couldn't take them off. The cute li'l bottle took my heart away. The product description was good enough for me to get it. As the site says, "This elegant fragrance bursts open with a joyful sparkle, while Royal White Lily slowly unfurls at the heart, radiating her glorious creamy scent, before settling into a soft, reassuring caress."

I have been using it for past one month and its amazing. Very light and soft smell which lingers on for long. Just spray a little here and there on your clothes and you will feel fresh whole day. I don't know about lilies but its application makes me feel that I am wearing freshly laundered crisp clothes all day. Yes, it has that effect.

Gaya: Temples, Monasteries & some Great Legends

With increased interest in travel and people becoming more conscious about their well-being, a new wing of travel has emerged and is gaining a lot of popularity with time i.e. Spiritual Travel.
Some people travel to exotic places and some to spiritual, the motive is to attain containment but Spiritual Travel is more about out of body experience taken voluntarily to cleanse their heart, mind and thoughts.

I am more into exploring new places whether exotic or spiritual and they both give me a sense of happiness. Spiritual mainly for covering the architecture. But when I visited Gaya in March 2014 with my family it was for pind daan of my grand parents. In Hinduism, Pind Daan is a mandatory ritual which is to be performed post death. It is believed that Pind Daan gives an ultimate relief to the departed soul and paves way into the world of peace.

Gaya is mentioned in great epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana. It is in fact believed that Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana had visited Gaya for offering pind daan to their father Dashratha.

Our trip was not just limited to Gaya but was a 3 nights, 4 days trip covering Gaya and some places around. Here is a comprehensive list of what you can cover in this duration.

Shri Mata Vaishnodevi, in and around - all you need to know

The Journey

Map shows important points on the way to the Bhawan. If you take helicopter your walk starts from the Helipad (in right) to Bhawan. A healthy & fit person without many breaks can cover the journey from Katra base to the Bhawan in around 5hrs

We had been planning from past many years but as they say you visit Mata Vaishnodevi only when she calls you. A very famous line which people sing is: चलो बुलावा आया है, माता ने बुलाया है! और हमारा अन्ततः आ ही गया।

Adventure of Blackbeard

When I got the Colgate hamper in my post I was wondering how will I weave a story around the characters it carries. But my lil bro was more than happy. He cut them into the beautiful characters and gave me this great Colgate story with a morale.

Adventure of Blackbeard

An unadulterated Coral Reef for a long time. Beauty which cannot be defined in words as per the legends but still not a travel hub. Surprising?

This area as people say is a house to great flora and fauna, some lovely and some deadly creatures and some hidden secrets. Once upon a time the Blackbeard set foot on his pirate ship and left for this mysterious coral reef with his treasure map which was passed to him through his forefathers.

The Game of Life "Stolen Hope" : Book Review

Third of the 6 book series "Ramayana: The Game of Life" is "Stolen Hope". A tale retold by Shubha Vilas following closely Valmiki's and Kamba's Ramayana for modern audiences.

In the first book the author covered the period of Rama's life in sync with the twelve beautiful years in Ayodhya's life.

In the second book he talked more on what defines the main characters like Rama's strong will, Sita's calmness, patience & resilience and Lakshmana's selfless services towards his elder brother and sister in law.

In here, the third book continues with the trio's exile and their many expeditions and experiences. This book basically covers how they hop from one place to another in 13 years to finally get stabilized at one place suggested by Sage Agastya.

Catch up on lost growth

Being a parent is difficult. Well I don't know but that's what my parents keep telling me.

What really bothers them the most about their kids is their health and nutrition. But every kid ain't that privileged who would start developing from a young age. Some are though given proper food may not develop at a good rate and some may just be nutrients deprived for many reasons. Catching up on lost growth ain't easy but is necessary for a healthy future.

Window to Middle East

Travel is life and I say this all the time. Being bitten by wanderlust bug from childhood, guess it’s in my DNA. As a kid I always used to tell my parents on how I want to travel across the world specially the countries of Europe and Australia but Middle East never caught my fancy.

Recently I got an opportunity to visit Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan by the Jordan Tourism Board, and I thought why not? After all, another name of travel is to explore the unknowns.

Ahlan Wa Sahlan to Jordan!

Kadmon ke nishan

In Romanagiri:
Kadmon ke nishaan hum chodte chale
Naye kal ki aur badhte chale,

Aasha nirasha toh waqt ki paribhasha hai
Chalte rehna, zindagi se yeh wada karte chale.

I want to stay here

At Tigers Leap, Lonavala
Just 90 km away from Mumbai and 65 km from Pune, Lonavala is the most visited hill station, especially by the residents of these two cities. “A convenient weekend getaway”

For the fast paced Mumbaikars, it’s difficult to go to faraway places but it sometimes can get boring to visit same place over and over again. But when you have resorts, which are no less than a place of interest, you would like to go there over and over again.

Cycling through National Park

Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP)

A national park within a metropolis limit, SGNP is a large protected area in Borivali. It encompasses an area of 104 sq km (40 sq mi) and is surrounded on three sides by India's most populous city, Mumbai. It is also one of the most visited parks in the world.

The rich flora and fauna of Sanjay Gandhi National Park attracts more than 2 million visitors every year. Tourists also enjoy visiting the 2400-year-old Kanheri caves (Buddhist Caves) sculpted out of the rocky cliffs which lie within the park. The Park's history dates back to the 4th century BC.

Mumbai to Singapore

A dream is a dream until it’s realized and lived, and I dream about traveling with my eyes both closed and open, trying to make them happen. It’s been on my mind to take a trip abroad from quite some time. Being a resident of India, a country that is so vivid in culture, food, people, language and places; I want my first visit abroad to a country like India and nearby too. For this, I have shortlisted places like Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Singapore.

When I discuss with my friends they all are like let’s go to Singapore, so I have been researching on it from quite some time. The Lion city, as it is called, is one of the most popular destination among tourists. Singapore has in fact bagged Asia’s top city attraction at World Travel Awards 2012.

Leaping Windows Comic Cafe - A Review

After a hard week at work, its finally that moment of Friday eve when your heart craves for some fun time and stomach screaming for good food. That's when we thought why not unwind at Versova beach witnessing beautiful sunset followed by a quaint evening at a quirky place.

Ask me and I am always up for a new place and why not, there are so many places to check out and life is too short to visit the same place again.

Searching, searching and we finally zeroed on a playful cafe with a clever menu and patio, plus a library of comic books, graphic novels and manga. Well, it's not very accessible, in terms of the distance from the main area. But if you are in the neighbourhood of Versova, I would suggest you too go there.

Why Leaping Windows?

TGIF #ThankGodItsFriday

A Panoramic view of Versova Beach
Its Friday eve, totally exhausted from that long week work and yeah you need a break. Its Mumbai, lot of traffic, pollution, crowd and on Friday eve people are either running back home or partying.
I wanted some peace and quality time to spend to get rid of the week long stress. Then I with a few friends came up with the idea of visiting beach followed by dinner at some new place.

Eco Beauty "Day Cream" - A Review

Women is the epitome of selflessness, power and is a giver. She indeed needs love & care to beat the toughness of everyday.

When I got Oriflame - Eco Beauty "Day Cream", I stopped complaining about dealing with the dryness the sun and pollution would give me while traveling to office.

Innovative and natural, this multi-action anti-oxidant Day Cream helps replenish your skin and reinforce its protective barrier to fight imperfections. Its very soft on skin and covers the area perfectly. It smells a bit like Vaseline.

Its Natural Pro-Blend™ formulation with Fairtrade Shea Butter and Fairtrade Organic Coconut Oil is secured in ultra-modern airtight packaging. Nonetheless its dermatologically tested.

Apply daily to cleansed skin.

I loved the packaging, traveler friendly body that fits in your purse easily.
Soft and mild on skin.

I found it a little pricey (Rs.1499/- for 50 ml)

Nostalgia: Everyone's Keepsake

This week I will be joining Jessica and Nicolette for the #CultureTrav travel chat on twitter as we talk Nostalgia.

Source: Google

Nostalgia; you look out of the window and it starts coming. You walk by a new lane, but still some known feeling starts to seep in: a trip which makes you go weak in knees by remembering that moment, or the meal you had on your special date, that song, that TV series and the list goes on.

New trips, new people, the present, and some things that we all know happen for a reason reminds us of those days, memories, even to the extent of Déjà Vu, and that’s nothing but Nostalgia.

She is my Good Vibe

As we say, a few things in life are timeless and so are some people. You can just never forget those, they, their life, teachings and moments with them are set in your subconscious. Such one person is my Granny, my mother's mum, whom we all kids used to call Amma.

She might not be there anymore in this material world but in the world of my own, she is omnipresent.
